Japan Foundation Gekiga Talk with Mitsuhiro Asakawa!

Posted: August 25, 2014

Apologies but due to unforeseen circumstances, this event has been cancelled. The accompanying exhibition Gekiga: Alternative Manga from Japan is still going ahead at The Cartoon Museum in London from September 23rd to November 29th 2014.

Japan’s mind-blowing comics culture has fascinated me for ages, so I’m really pleased to be invited to join my friend Mitsuhiro Asakawa, an award winning historian of Gekiga, in a conversation at The Japan Foundation, London. To begin the evening, Asakawa will introduce some of Japan’s most influential Gekiga artists, notably Yoshihiro Tatsumi, and reflect on his personal encounters with them, as well as exploring the original source of creativity in Gekiga expression and the social circumstances that resulted in this style.

This event promises to provide an intriguing and insightful scope into Gekiga and alternative comics to Manga in Japan. Join us both on 25 September 2014 from 6.30pm. This event is free to attend but booking is essential.
